Song Hyun-Jong

Abstract
This study was to offer the analysis of long-term care hospital in major foreign countries and ultimately drive suggestions for role of Korean long-term care hospital system. OECD defined long-term care hospital as long-term care beds in hospital. A few OECD countries institutionalized long-term care beds in hospital which focused at palliative care or geriatric care. As a result of reviewing Japan, Canada, USA, and Netherlands¡¯ cases that had similar to Korean long-term care hospital, their hospitals provided comprehensive post-acute and nursing care. Clearly defined admission criteria by pre-admission review and systemization of referral from other organization were developed. Based on this review of foreign countries¡¯ examples, consideration of policy needs, and present problem raised by providers, further discussion on future role of Korean long-term care hospital should be conducted.
